Occupants tried to attack Kyiv twice in the morning: air defense forces shot down ballistic missiles and a cruise missile

Against the backdrop of the launch of the Shaheds in Ukraine on the morning of August 18, the aggressor country Russia tried to attack Kyiv region twice with missiles. First, the invaders launched ballistic missiles, and then cruise missiles - the enemy targets were shot down by the defenders of the sky.

Both attacks were repelled, the regional military administration and the KCMA reported. It is noted that in the region , the fragments of enemy missiles destroyed two houses and damaged 16 houses.

The third ballistic missile attack in August towards Kyiv

The first "Shaheds" were spotted in the country's airspace around 2 a.m. on Sunday: in Sumy, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Kirovohrad regions. For Kyiv region, the alert was raised at about half past five in the morning.

Then there was a report of several high-speed vehicles moving, followed by explosions on the outskirts of Kyiv, which were reportedly destroyed by air defense as they approached the city.

According to the KCMA, this was the third ballistic missile attack on the capital this month ,with a clear six-day interval between each attack. Most likely, the Russian war criminals used North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles.

"Once again , the forces and means of our air defense did not allow the enemy to achieve its goal and hit Kyiv. Preliminary, the missiles were hit on the approach to the capital," said the head of the department, Serhiy Popko.

He added that thanks to the defenders of the sky, Kyiv residents did not even hear the sounds of the Shaheds, which the enemy also sent towards the capital. All drones were destroyed far outside the city. In the morning, no damage or casualties were reported in Kyiv.

Another attempt to strike Kyiv

Around 07:00, the Russian terrorist state launched another missile attack on the Kyiv region, this time using cruise missiles, probably of the Iskander-K type.

Previously, these enemy targets were also destroyed. Once again, there were no casualties in the capital, and the consequences for the region are still being determined.

What did Russia use?

The Telegram channel monitorwar reported that it is highly likely that the Russians used a cruise missile (or several) of the Kh-101/55SM/3M14 type during the second attack on Kyiv region.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the enemy launched

- eight Shaheds

- two Kh-59 guided missiles

- three cruise missiles, the type of which is being specified;

- three ballistic missiles(one Iskander-M and two KN-23).

Of these, the air defense forces destroyed all the attack drones and five missiles - both KN-23 and three cruise missiles. The rest of the missiles that were not included in the statistics of those shot down did not reach the targets desired by the enemy.

Consequences of the enemy attack

Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, thanked the air defense forces for their reliable protection. He emphasized that there were no hits to critical and residential infrastructure in the region, and no casualties.

At the same time, destruction and damage to private houses in three garden associations in one of the communities was reported due to the fall of debris from downed targets.

"There is information about the destruction of two houses and damage to 16 houses. Windows were smashed, facades and roofs were damaged. The work on fixing the consequences continues. Debris damaged four cars, fences and power lines. A fire on a grass deck in one of the garden associations has been extinguished," the official added.

Under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office , a pre-trial investigation has been launched in criminal proceedings over violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Investigators, prosecutors and experts are documenting the Russian war crime.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, a man and a child were killed in Brovary district of Kyiv region as a result of a Russian missile attack on the night of August 11: they were trapped under the rubble of a house. Three other civilians were injured.
