The US will stand with Kyiv until victory: the Foreign Ministry explains that the State Department's statement does not mean less support for Ukraine

Foreign Ministry explains what the State Department spokesperson's statement on military aid to Ukraine means

The statement of the US State Department spokesperson about changes in support for Ukraine should not be interpreted as Washington's intention to provide less assistance. The United States understands very well how important it is to support Ukraine to victory, as it is an investment in America's national security.

This was stated by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleh Nikolenko, in a comment to OBOZ.UA. He added that the assistance provided by the United States to Ukraine is not "charity."

Nikolenko emphasized that the statement by the US State Department spokesperson that Washington does not see the need to continue funding at the level of 2022-2023 should not be interpreted as a statement of the US side's intention to reduce support.

"During contacts at all levels, the United States demonstrates a clear understanding of the critical need to provide our country with all the necessary military and financial assistance to ensure that we win. If you listen carefully to the entire commentary of my American colleague, he spoke about the transformation of assistance only when Ukraine is able to cope with its needs on its own," he said.

At the moment, Ukraine needs support, so it is important that the U.S. Congress passes a resolution as soon as possible to continue funding the aid in the amount requested.

"Supporting Ukraine is not charity. First and foremost, it is an investment in American national security and protection of global democracy," summarized the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman.

On the afternoon of January 5, the media quoted State Department spokesman Matthew Miller a ssaying that Washington is committed to helping Kyiv build its own military-industrial base.

"We will continue to support Ukraine for as long as it takes. But that does not mean we will continue to support Ukraine at the same level of military funding as in 2022 and 2023," Miller said.

The State Department spokesperson explained that Washington's key goal is to help Ukraine produce and purchase the weapons it needs at the frontline on its own.

However, until this happens, the United States will continue to provide assistance. That is why, Miller emphasized, it is so important that Congress approves additional funding for Ukraine at the request of the US President. For now, Ukraine cannot cope with the enemy on its own.
