Kuleba: Ukraine wants an invitation to NATO, not the involvement of the Alliance in the war
Ukraine has never asked the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance to send troops to help in the war against Russia, which has attacked it. Kyiv has only asked for weapons for the Ukrainian military and has never tried to draw NATO into a war with Russia.
Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said this in an interview with La7.
"We have never, never asked for foreign soldiers to show up on our soil. And I think that fact should be appreciated. Unlike many countries in the world that have asked NATO to station troops on their territory to solve the problems of these countries, we, Ukrainians, have never asked for foreign soldiers," the foreign minister stressed.
Kuleba also stressed that Ukraine's calls have always been for our military to hand over weapons and they will do the rest themselves.
To remind, former NATO Secretary General Anders Rasmussen said that a group of the Alliance states might want to deploy troops on the territory of Ukraine. They may make such a decision if Ukraine does not receive the real security guarantees it is asking for against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion at the NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11.
Dmytro Kuleba, reacting to such a statement, stressed that until the full-scale war is over, foreign states will not introduce their troops on the territory of our country. Ukraine is not asking for that.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, President Zelensky said that at the July summit in Vilnius, Ukraine hopes to receive specific decisions on its further integration into NATO, as well as security guarantees during the preparation for membership in the Alliance. This is not about immediate membership, but only plans for the near future.
