"It's a privilege": Svitolina admits how she was impressed by Ukrainians

Svitolina spoke about her compatriots

Ukraine's top-ranked tennis player Elina Svitolina has admitted that she experienced incredible emotions during her fall trip to her home country. The tennis player noted that she was impressed by the resilience of her compatriots, who, despite constant drone attacks and missile strikes from Russia, continue to follow her career.

Svitolina said this in an interview with Forbes. According to the 29-year-old native of Odesa, the difficulties she faces in her life and career are nothing compared to what the people of Ukraine are experiencing today. Elina added that she considers it a huge privilege to have to perform well.

"I feel like I have a mission now in many ways. Many Ukrainians write to me on Instagram and come up to me when I was in Ukraine. It's really nice. They say: "I watch the matches". They have hard days, 80-90 rockets fired at them, but they take the time to watch my matches. It's a really incredible feeling. Whenever I have difficult situations, I try to remind myself of what my friends and family in Ukraine are facing. As Billy Jean King said, pressure is a privilege. I treat it that way," Svitolina said.
