Cancer treatment drug shows 100% efficacy in the US: all participants in the experiment went into remission

In the United States of America, a study was conducted on a drug for colorectal cancer. Some time after taking the drug, all participants in the experiment went into remission.

Scientists say that this research can be used to help people fight other forms of cancer. This is stated in the results of a scientific study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

All study participants took the drug Dostarlimab. It is already approved for the treatment of endometrial cancer in the UK. And after being tested at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York, it exceeded all medical expectations.

The trial involved 18 people with cancer. A year after the end of the study, each of them went into remission, and doctors were unable to detect any signs of the disease in their bodies.

Experts say that despite the fact that the trial was small, it is considered decisive and positions the drug as a potential cure for one of the most dangerous common cancers.

At the same time, the problem is that Dostarlimab can only be used in one-tenth of colorectal cancer patients who have a genetic mutation in their tumour.

Dr Luis Diaz, one of the lead authors of the article, said that this was the first time in the history of cancer treatment that such a result had been obtained. Now researchers will have to find out whether this drug can be effective in treating other types of cancer.

"This is really exciting. I think it's a big step forward for patients. We are studying whether the same method can help with other types of cancer, where treatment is often life-changing," he said.

As a reminder, doctors at the Cherkasy Regional Oncology Center in partnership with a private clinic in Kropyvnytskyi performed an allogeneic bone marrow transplant. The operation was carried out at public expense thanks to a pilot project of the Ministry of Health.
