Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau supports Scholz's idea to call Putin
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has supported German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's idea to call the Russian dictator. According to him, in order to end the war, interaction with Vladimir Putin will be required.
At the same time, Trudeau added that Canada and its allies continue to work closely with Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg.
The head of the Canadian government emphasized that it would be nice to have an open line of communication with Putin. Despite the fact that some European politicians disagreed with Scholz's decision to call Putin, the Canadian prime minister praised the chancellor's move.
"We all understand how important it is to put an end to the violence in Ukraine and to end conflicts around the world. This requires a certain level of engagement with colleagues with whom we disagree in many cases," Trudeau said at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
At the same time, Trudeau emphasized that the trust he has in Putin is at an all-time low. He said Canada is committed to Ukraine's victory and wants to see the conflict end as soon as possible.
"There may be windows in which that can happen in the coming months," Trudeau said, without elaborating.
As a reminder, on November 15, Scholz and Putin had their first telephone conversation in two years. The Russian dictator used this conversation to try to influence the German government and other Western countries to support Kyiv.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson reacted to the telephone conversation between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. According to him, contact with the Kremlin leader threatens to return to the Franco-German-Normandy format.
Earlier it was reported that Putin continues his campaign to influence the West. He seeks to force Ukraine's Western partners to put pressure on our country by reducing military aid and insisting on negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.
