The problem exists, and it worries Ukraine: MP says Russia has a noticeable influence on the US Republican Party
In the United States, there is already open talk of Russian influence on the actions of certain representatives of the Republican Party. For example, Republican Michael Turner, who chairs the House Select Committee on Intelligence, said that some of his fellow members of Congress are broadcasting Russian propaganda about the war in Ukraine. Earlier, Congressman McCaul said that Russian propaganda "has infected a large part of my party."
This problem does exist, but it is limited. This opinion was expressed by Oleksandr Merezhko, MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA.
"It is very good that the Republicans themselves understand this and are trying to fight this phenomenon. Among them are many politicians, congressmen, senators who are supporters of the Reagan approach, i.e., decisiveness in foreign policy and policy of deterring the aggressor. I have talked to the chairmen of the Defense and Foreign Affairs Committees, and they are Republicans who support Reaganism and Ukraine," Merezhko said.
At the same time, in his opinion, these pro-Russian Republicans are marginal figures, so they do not influence much. However, it still worries Ukraine because Russia often takes advantage of this course of events.
Earlier, it was reported that the United States has not been able to agree on an aid package for Ukraine for more than 5 months because of the confrontation between the administration of US President Joe Biden and the Republican Party and former President Donald Trump.
