Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen arrives in Kyiv

On Tuesday, June 18, the Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, arrived in Ukraine on an official visit. In Kyiv, she will meet with government officials.

This was reported by Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratyuk on Facebook. She met the guest at the Kyiv railway station.

"This is an important visit for the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and evidence of support for Ukrainian-Lithuanian relations!" the representative of the Verkhovna Rada said.

The Lithuanian delegation is expected to stay in Ukraine for two days. Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielse is scheduled to have meetings at the highest level.

It should be noted that 40-year-old Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielse is a Lithuanian chess player, grandmaster, 2011 European chess champion and two-time winner of the Lithuanian championship. She first became a member of the Seimas in 2015, and since November 13, 2020, she has been a speaker from the Liberal Movement party. In addition to her native Lithuanian, she speaks Russian, English, and Spanish.

As reported, Lithuania recently announced that it would provide Ukraine with new assistance to combat Russia's full-scale invasion. The country will provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with M113 armored personnel carriers.

Vilnius also does not rule out the option of sending instructors to Ukraine to train the military. They said they could take such a step if their Western partners joined them.
