'Important call': Zelensky responds to Pope's appeal to Russian Federation

Zelensky supported Francis' address to Moscow

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has backed Pope Francis' address to the Russian leadership on the morning of 30 July. The pontiff urged Moscow to resume the grain initiative in the Black Sea, and the Ukrainian guarantor is convinced that world leaders - secular and religious - should follow suit.

The politician wrote about this on his Twitter account. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is and will be the guarantor of food security of the world

"The response of the world's spiritual leaders to Russian missile terror and the destruction of Ukrainian agricultural products is essential to safeguard the entire world, and especially the people of Africa and Asia, the most threatened, from the food crisis," the nation's leader wrote.

Recall that after the Sunday service of the Catholic Church, the Pope addressed representatives of the Russian leadership, calling them brothers and sisters. He called for the resumption of the grain corridor, which will prevent a terrible famine on several continents at once, as the inhabitants of the Third World "are already crying to heaven."

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, on July 17, the Kremlin said that they are terminating the grain agreement from July 18, and the coordination center in Istanbul will be disbanded.

Then Zelensky and the UN explained Russia's withdrawal from the grain agreement. According to the Ukrainian president, Russia, by announcing the termination of the grain agreement, disrupts its agreements, but the Russian Federation had no agreements with Ukraine, so Kyiv planned to negotiate with Turkey and the UN to extend the initiative.

Much later Putin made statements about the grain deal and the war against Ukraine. He indicated that African friends were not asking for any handouts, but also recognized Russia's commercial interest in derailing the grain agreement.
