Although many brides hire a professional makeup artist to create a festive look, expectations don't always match reality. Thus, to avoid last-minute disappointment, you can choose a great alternative, namely do the perfect makeup yourself (after some practice, of course).

It's also a great way to save money as you don't have to pay for someone else's services, manage schedules, or visit salons. That means you'll have more time and resources to focus on other important aspects of wedding planning. Experts have given universal tips to help you create the perfect wedding makeup at home.

Tips for wedding makeup

Unlike everyday makeup, which you can easily touch up every few hours, wedding makeup should stay in place during the ceremony, photo shoot, and party. Therefore, it is worth taking care of high-quality and long-lasting cosmetics in advance.

There are a lot of holiday looks online - you just need to choose the one that suits your appearance.

Reina Kim, a makeup artist and hairstylist, advises looking for makeup options based on similarities in face types. For example, try to determine which celebrity you resemble the most and look through all the options that might suit you.

"Following makeup trends that don't suit your face can lead to an awkward look," Kim emphasized. She also warns against copying a look you see online just because it's trending.

Think about what colors will best complement your skin tone, as finding the right shade is crucial. You can even mix different tones to create the perfect combination.

When choosing cosmetics, it is better to rely on proven formulas, as experimenting with new brands can lead to an allergic reaction. It's better to buy the products a few weeks before the event and check their effect on the skin.

Here are some of the products that are important to have on hand for wedding makeup:

  • primer
  • concealer
  • blush
  • bronzer
  • highlighter
  • powder
  • foundation
  • eye shadow
  • mascara
  • false eyelashes and glue
  • eyeliner
  • lipstick or lip gloss
  • lip pencil
  • setting spray
  • makeup brushes

The most important thing is skin preparation. You can visit a dermatologist or cosmetologist beforehand and ask them to perform a pre-wedding procedure. Glowing, healthy skin will make a huge difference when it comes time to apply makeup.

And while you may be tempted to spend some time outdoors to get a natural tan, make sure you follow sun protection rules. Prolonged exposure can lead to sunburn, uneven skin pigmentation, and dryness.

Step-by-step instructions

  • The morning before the wedding, it's important to prepare your skin. Use a lightweight moisturizer to add radiance. Do not forget about the primer.
  • Apply basic products. Unlike normal everyday makeup, you should make sure that you choose a long-lasting foundation that will not spread or get caught in fine lines and wrinkles. After applying the foundation, add blush, concealer, or bronzer.
  • Blend skin tinting products thoroughly. This way, you will eliminate harsh lines and create a flawless, even foundation.
  • Apply setting powder to keep your makeup looking natural and fresh.
  • Elongated lashes will emphasize your face. You can add a few false lashes for thicker and longer lashes. Apply eye shadow, eyeliner, or mascara to emphasize your eyebrows.
  • Depending on whether you prefer lipstick or gloss, stick to your tried-and-true method when it comes to bridal makeup. And don't forget about the lip pencil - in combination with it, lipstick will last a little longer.
