Apricot trees are unpretentious, so caring for them is easy and even beginners can handle it. Various factors affect the yield, but the most important thing is to know when to prune the tree.

Apricot grows quickly, so it may require several prunings in one season. OBOZREVATEL has found effective tips to help you cope with this.

Spring

You need to prune the tree from the second year after planting the seedling. Do it on a warm day before the leaves appear, which is when trees begin to form a crown (a set of branches and leaves at the top of the seedling).

Summer

Gardeners usually prune the tree in June, when the annual branches begin to thicken the crown. It is at this time that the cuts heal the fastest.

Fall

During this period, the tree is pruned to extend its life. You need to leave fruit and deciduous branches in a one-to-one ratio. Pruning fruit branches may reduce the next year's harvest, but it will increase the years of the tree's life. Fruits appear on one branch for about three years. Therefore, one old branch should be removed every year.

But remember that only early and mid-early varieties can be pruned in the fall. If you have a late variety of apricot, then it should be pruned only in the spring.
