In a new study, experts have tested the fuel consumption of modern cars. We are interested in inexpensive cars that actually disappointed with their performance – they turned out to be worse than originally promised by the manufacturers.

The experiment was conducted by experts from the Australian Automobile Association (AAA). And, according to Car Expert, they came to some interesting conclusions.

It's no secret that automakers resort to laboratory measurements to announce the most attractive (i.e. low) fuel consumption. But road irregularities, weather, and traffic conditions always make adjustments to the real numbers. It's not hard to guess that real-world figures differ from the data sheet.

Mazda CX-3

Real fuel consumption of modern cars:

  • Mazda CX-3 (gasoline) 6.8 l/100 km (11% more);
  • Mazda CX-5 (gasoline) 7.9 l/100 km (15% more);
  • Skoda Kamiq (gasoline) 6.4 l/100 km (up 14%);
  • Subaru Forester (hybrid) 7.4 l/100 km (10% more);
  • Suzuki Swift (gasoline) 6.3 l/100 km (up 31%);
  • Toyota Camry (hybrid) 4.5 l/100 km (up 8%);
  • Mini Cooper (gasoline) 6.3 l/100 km (6% more).

The experts managed to find out the real performance in real everyday traffic conditions. The cars on the list performed worse than other cars and went quite far from the official figures.
