The Ukrainian biathlon team made a "futile" decision before the World Cup relay
The head coach of the Ukrainian biathlon team, Yurai Sanitra, used a simulated combat race to determine the squad for the World Cup relay, which is currently taking place in the Czech Republic. Taras Lesiuk and Denys Nasyko were competing for a spot.
The day before the relay, the coaching staff held a training session to simulate a race between Nasyko and Lesiuk. The biathletes ran at full speed for a certain distance and came to the shooting with a high heart rate. In total, the biathletes repeated this three times.
Sanitra admitted that based on the results of the "race", the coaches were unable to determine the best.
"Neither the first nor the second could cope with the shooting, the wind was blowing. So it didn't get any clearer. I'm using the fact that Nasyko already has relay experience. He's always been a part of the relay and has performed very well," Suspilne.Sport quoted Sanitra as saying.
As a result, Nasyko was selected for the relay. Denys admitted that he was given the task of practicing shooting in wrestling to see how he would behave in a situation with a high heart rate.
