Summer 2024 will be remembered for its abnormal heat. Europe continues to sound the alarm. Tourists traveling to Spain this weekend are advised to be extra cautious. The country has issued a warning about extreme weather conditions.

The state meteorological agency Aemet has sounded the alarm that the temperature in some parts of the country, including Andalusia and the Balearic Islands, will exceed 40 °C. The fourth official heat wave of this summer will last from Friday, August 9 to Sunday, August 11.

Andalusia and the Balearic Islands are the most popular vacation destinations, including Mallorca, Ibiza and Marbella, which are now in high season.

The highest temperatures are expected this Saturday, reaching 42 °C in some regions. Nighttime temperatures will remain above 25 °C.

"On August 9, temperatures will exceed 39 °C in the Ebro, Huesca, Lerida, Guadalquivir Valley, Granada, central Spain and the Duero Valley. In the Tagus and Guadiana valleys, it will reach 40 °C. The 34 °C mark will be exceeded in western Galicia. Thermometers will reach 36 °C in the rest of the northern plateau, inland Catalonia, northern Valencia and southern Balearic Islands," said the Aemet representative.

On Sunday, August 11, a cooler Atlantic air mass is likely to begin to arrive in the western third of the peninsula.

However, weather forecasters emphasize that the heat will remain largely unchanged, especially in the Cantabria region, where the southerly wind can even lead to a significant increase in temperature.
