Stuffed peppers in tomato and basil sauce: how to add spice to a familiar dish
Stuffed peppers are a popular dish in Ukraine that is distinguished by its juiciness, incredible aroma, and variety of flavors. It is not considered difficult to prepare, so it is often served to the table.
A food blogger with the nickname v.vanilinka shared on Instagram how to make stuffed peppers so that everyone would be impressed. She dresses the dish with tomato and basil sauce, which gives it a unique spicy flavor.
Ingredients for the filling
- Minced meat – 500 g
- Rice – ¼ cup
- Onions – 1-2 pcs.
- Garlic – 2-3 cloves
- Parsley
- Pepper
- Coriander salt
Ingredients for the sauce
- Onions – 1-2 pcs.
- Tomatoes – 3 pcs.
- Tomato puree – 2 tbsp.
- Basil
- Broth or water
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Sugar – 1 tsp.
Method of preparation
1. Mix the minced meat, chopped onion, garlic, parsley, rice, black pepper, coriander and salt.
2. Optionally, add 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce.
3. Cut off the "lid" of the peppers and remove the center.
4. Fill the peppers with minced meat and put them in a baking dish.
5. Put them in the oven preheated to 180 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
6. Prepare the sauce. Dice the onion and tomatoes.
7. Add the onion and sugar to the pan with the oil, and after a few minutes add the tomatoes.
8. Fry for a few minutes and add tomato puree, salt, spices, and basil.
9. Add the broth and simmer for another 10 minutes.
10. Pour the resulting sauce over the peppers and send them to bake for another 20-25 minutes.
