Russia shells Ukrainian thermal power plant

Russia has attacked a thermal power plant (TPP) in Ukraine. The region was not disclosed, but it is known that the attack took place in eastern Ukraine on the evening of October 22. Several consumers were left without electricity.

This was reported by DTEK and Ukrenergo on the morning of October 23. "Fortunately, there were no casualties. The attack seriously damaged the company's equipment," DTEK said in a statement.

After the shelling stopped, the power company began to eliminate its consequences. The company did not report any massive power outages, but Ukrenergo noted that some consumers in the region were still without electricity.

"Due to the damage to the equipment, household and industrial consumers were cut off. The thermal power plant is currently in operation. Where possible, power supply to consumers has been partially restored, and emergency repair works are underway," Ukrenergo said.

"The enemy continues to carry out terrorist attacks on civilian and energy facilities in Ukraine," DTEK stated. They reminded that the company's actions to ensure energy supply are synchronized with Ukrenergo.

So far, according to the energy company, the current generated by Ukrainian power plants is enough to meet the needs of all household and legal consumers. "Ukrenergo sees no reason to restrict the power system unless there is new shelling. No consumption limits have been introduced," Ukrenergo said.

As a reminder, Ukraine has already approved schedules of power outages. But they will be applied only if Russia continues to shell critical infrastructure.

"The mere fact that blackout schedules are in place does not mean that they are going to be used. But this tool should be in the package that can be used by the dispatcher," explained Yuriy Boyko, a member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrenergo.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, power engineers are doing everything to ensure that Ukrainians have electricity and heat in winter. However, the situation depends on how strong and successful Russia's attacks on our infrastructure will be. That is why every Ukrainian should take at least a minimum of measures to prepare for possible difficulties.
