Pidruchnyi won the gold medal in the super sprint

Ukrainian biathlete Dmytro Pidruchnyi won the super sprint race at the 2024 Summer World Championships, which are being held in Otepaa, Estonia, on our country's Flag Day. Our compatriot covered the 7.5-kilometer course with four firing lines in 19 minutes and 19.5 seconds.

Pidruchnyi failed to hit only one target out of 20. This did not prevent him from being the first to finish the course and win the gold medal. As he was finishing the course, the 32-year-old from Ternopil pointed to the flag of Ukraine on his helmet, dedicating his victory to our country.

Dmytro was five seconds ahead of his compatriot Artem Tyshchenko and 7.5 seconds ahead of Czech representative Tomas Mikiska. It is worth noting that this is Pidruchnyi's first gold medal at the Summer Biathlon World Championships. Before that, he only took silver in the mixed relay at the 2016 championships.

Earlier, 27-year-old biathlete Taras Lesiuk of the Ukrainian national team married Yuliia Pidruchna, who is the younger sister of Dmytro Pidruchnyi.
