Michelin-starred chef shares a recipe for perfect mashed potatoes
Mashed potatoes are one of the most popular side dishes in the world. It must have a beautiful appearance, a delicate airy texture, and a rich creamy flavor.
Michelin-starred chef Poppy O'Toole told the Mirror how to make mashed potatoes correctly. She claims that following this recipe, mashed potatoes will always turn out delicious.
Ingredients
- Potatoes – 4 pcs
- Salted butter – 75 gr
- Milk or cream – 50 ml
- Salt – 2 tbsp
- Melted butter – optional
Method of preparation
1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into 1 cm thick rings.
2. Put the potatoes in a saucepan and add enough water to cover all the vegetables. Add a pinch of salt and turn on the heat.
3. Cook the potatoes until tender, but do not overcook.
4. Drain the water from the potatoes and let them cook through on their own steam. Cover the pot with a lid and leave it for 3-5 minutes.
5. Pass the potatoes through a sieve and add the butter.
6. Heat milk or cream and add to the mashed potatoes.
7. Stir until smooth.
8. Put it on a plate.
9. You can also add a tablespoon of melted butter at this stage.
