How to clean leather seats

Leather seat upholstery is not only a practical but also an elegant choice. Leather is durable, resistant to abrasion and mechanical damage. Unlike fabric, it has a denser structure that does not thin out due to prolonged friction.

Leather upholstery does not absorb dust and unpleasant odors. A nice bonus is the presentable appearance. The leather interior looks very expensive and elegant. The only caveat is to properly clean such seats, because they require careful maintenance and the use of appropriate products. Experts have collected top tips to help you clean the upholstery quickly and efficiently.

To clean leather seats, you will need

  • soft microfiber cloths;
  • a mild cleaning agent
  • water
  • a brush or toothbrush;
  • a vacuum cleaner.

The first step is to remove dirt, dust, debris, and crumbs by vacuuming the interior. Use a brush attachment to reach crevices and tight spots.

Before using any cleaner, test it on an inconspicuous area of the upholstery to make sure it won't damage or discolor the leather. Choose a product specifically formulated for cleaning leather upholstery. Avoid using harsh chemicals or household cleaners, as they can damage the material.

Gently wipe the seat with a microfiber cloth dampened in the cleaning solution. A toothbrush can be used to remove stubborn stains, but please note that the active friction may scratch the leather.

After cleaning, wipe off excess moisture with a clean, dry microfiber cloth.

Some experts recommend applying a leather conditioner to dry seats at the end to restore moisture and maintain elasticity. Be sure to wipe off any remaining conditioner with a dry cloth. This will create a kind of polishing effect.
