How to make spathiphyllum bloom: the easy way
Spathiphyllum, or "female happiness," is known for its lush greenery and spectacular flowering. These houseplants are easy to care for, thrive in a variety of lighting conditions, and can tell you when it's time to water them.
However, to start producing buds, the plant needs regular fertilization. The fertilizer does not have to be factory-made. A home remedy, the recipe for which OBOZ.UA found out, is enough.
A product that gives spathiphyllum all the nutrients it needs is a banana. Or rather, its peel. This fruit is rich in potassium, which is of great benefit to flowering plants such as spathiphyllums, helping them to transport nutrients and water inside. In addition to potassium, banana peels contain a certain amount of manganese, calcium, magnesium, and sulfur.
To prepare the water for watering your spathiphyllums, put the banana peels in a jar of water, close the lid tightly, and leave it overnight or for several days.
The finished infusion will have a cloudy appearance. You will need to strain the liquid from it and pour it into a separate container to use later. It is better to dilute the infusion with water in a ratio of 3:1 or more before watering.
Experts say that banana water is a really good tool for caring for spathiphyllums, but it lacks nitrogen, which stimulates the development of new leaves. In addition, excessive use of this fertilizer can cause brown spots on the greenery. Greening of flowers can also signal an excess of potassium. In this case, you need to reduce the amount of banana water for irrigation or dilute it more.
