At risk of disruption? The Biathlon World Championships are facing serious problems
The organizers of the Biathlon World Championships, which will take place in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, on February 7-18, faced serious problems two days before the tournament. The arena, where 12 sets of awards will be played out, has been closed, and the athletes cannot train.
This was reported by the Norwegian portal NRK with reference to Borut Noonar, an official of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The main reason for the closure of the stadium was bad weather conditions, in particular, on Monday it rained heavily in the host city. The snow has melted on the arena itself, and there is debris on the slopes and signs to help biathletes navigate the track.
The IBU does not deny that the start of the World Championships will have to be postponed, but this does not scare the organizers, who intend to provide the participants with normal conditions for the fight for medals.
It should be noted that on the eve of the championships, it became known that 28-year-old Minsk native Daria Blashko, who will no longer play for the blue and yellows this season, was excluded from the Ukrainian national team.
