How many times have you, sitting comfortably on your bed, remembered that you forgot a drink or a sandwich on the table? And how many times have you dreamed that one day a robot will be invented that will "deliver" food to your couch? It seems to have happened.

A carpenter from the Netherlands has developed a table that can move around the room and serve you food and drinks. The Carpentopod table has two motors that drive 12 legs – six on either side, MailOnline reports.

This miracle invention was created by Giliam de Carpentier, a programmer and carpenter from Amsterdam, who described the project from start to finish in a lengthy blog post on decarpentier.nl.

"Back in 2008, I wrote software for fun to create various optimized running gear. And as I've also acquired some electronics and woodworking skills in recent years, I was able to turn one of these mechanisms into a real wireless walking wooden coffee table: Carpentopod".

The carpenter says that the name for the table was chosen as a combination of the old Latin and Greek words carpentum (carriage) and pod (feet).

Carpentopod has a clever internal rotation mechanism that lifts one leg when the opposite one touches the ground. When you need to change direction, only the legs on one side of the table will move – just like a paddle in a boat.

Amazing footage shows the table walking towards the user with a full bottle of beer on the tabletop without spilling a single drop.

"Since each individual leg in the Carpentopod connection takes only one-third of the cycle of walking on the ground, the table itself would need twelve legs to be stable at all times. Between the six legs at one end and the six at the other, I also left space to accommodate the electronics, motors, and battery," explained de Carpentier.

The programmer can move his desk using a remote control.
