The best place to store potatoes: usually people avoid it
Potatoes are a staple vegetable in the diet of millions of people. It is used to make main dishes, soups, and side dishes. That is why it is very important to always have this vegetable available and fresh at home.
Tesco supermarket chain told Mirror how to store potatoes properly to keep them fresh for a long time. As it turned out, most people do it wrong.
According to experts, potatoes should be freed from plastic packaging as soon as they arrive in the kitchen. It is best to use nets or paper bags to store this vegetable. This way, it won't suffocate.
Also, potatoes should not be stored near onions, which are known to emit ethylene gas. This gas, in turn, helps to accelerate the spoilage of foods that are nearby. The place where potatoes are stored should not have access to light, because then, through the processes of photosynthesis, they can sprout quickly.
It is very important to maintain the correct temperature regime for storing potatoes. Not many people know that they should be kept at a temperature of at least 10 degrees. So, if you want to keep the potatoes fresh for as long as possible, you should put them in a paper bag or a net and place them in a place where there are no light sources and the temperature is stable.
