Russia attacks Sumy with drones twice: medical center and residential sector hit, there are dead. Photo
On the night of September 28, Russian troops attacked Sumy regional center with Shahed drones. A health care facility was damaged, and after emergency services arrived, the enemy struck again.
At least seven people were killed, including a police officer, and 12 people were seriously wounded. The Sumy Regional Military Administration, the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko reported the attack.
"Today, on the morning of September 28, the enemy launched an air strike on a healthcare facility in the regional center, using a Shahed UAV. Preliminary, there are victims. All necessary services are working at the site. The consequences of the Russian attack are being clarified. Take care of yourselves. Do not ignore the air raid alerts!" the statement reads.
After the emergency services arrived at the scene, the Russians attacked Sumy for the second time.
"There was a second air strike in the regional center. The enemy launched a Shahed UAV at the residential sector. The consequences of the strike are being clarified," the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported at 08:47.
The Ukrainian Air Force said that after the night attacks, the Russians launched three more Shahed drones at Sumy, two of which hit a hospital building.
According to the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, the Russians struck first at around 07:35. At the time of the attack, there were 86 patients in the hospital, including 15 people with limited mobility, as well as 38 staff members.
According to Klymenko, one person died as a result of the first shelling. Ten others were wounded.
The enemy attack destroyed the ceilings of several floors of the hospital. Evacuation of patients and staff began. Rescuers and police arrived at the scene to help people. And then, in the midst of the evacuation, the Russians struck again. The invaders attacked around 08:25.
The second strike killed five people and injured a police officer.
"As of now, we know about 6 dead, including a police officer. Another policeman was wounded," emphasized Klymenko.
In total, as of 10 a.m., 11 people were wounded as a result of two Russian strikes.
At around 10:30, the number of casualties increased. According to the Sumy Regional Military Administration, the Russians killed seven people and seriously wounded 12 others.
"Under the procedural guidance of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted into the violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)... Prosecutors, in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, are documenting the consequences of the shelling. The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in Sumy region," the regional prosecutor's office said in a statement.
As a reminder, on the night of September 28, Russians attacked Ukraine with missiles and Shahed UAVs. The defense forces shot down 71 enemy targets out of 77 that were recorded in Ukrainian airspace. In particular, 69 Shahed drones and two missiles were destroyed.
