Preparing for Christmas in advance: the best recipe for stollen that will brighten up your holidays
Stollen is a delicious and flavorful traditional Christmas pastry that came to us from Germany. Most often, this dish is served at Christmas and enjoyed by the whole family.
A food blogger with the nickname inna tarasjuk knows exactly how to make stollen. On Instagram, she shared what you need to make it and described the whole process in detail.
Ingredients for the dough
- flour - 500 g
- dry yeast - 12 g or pressed yeast - 36 g
- milk - 150 ml
- orange juice - 100 ml
- sugar - 120 g
- 82.5% butter - 210 g
- lemon zest - 1 pc
- orange zest - 1 pc
- cinnamon - 7 g
- ground ginger - 4 g
- vanilla
- salt - 3 g
Additional ingredients
- raisins - 300 g
- cranberries - 150 g
- almonds - 120 g
- rum or cognac - 150 ml
- marzipan - optional
Ingredients for the decor
- 82.5% butter - 50 g
- powdered sugar - 150 g
Method of preparation
1. Mix the dry ingredients in a mixer bowl.
2. Add milk and zest, knead a little and add orange juice.
3. Knead a fairly soft dough. Add butter and knead until the dough is elastic and not sticky.
4. Add dried fruits and chopped nuts.
5. Knead until combined. Transfer the dough to a clean container, cover and leave in a warm place for 2-4 hours.
6. Put the finished dough on a work surface and divide it into 2 parts. Roll each part into an oval.
7. Cover the left part with the right one, not reaching the edge by 1 cm.
8. If using marzipan, put it inside.
9. Transfer to a baking sheet. Cover with a kitchen towel and leave for 40-60 minutes.
10. Bake at 170 degrees for 35-45 minutes. The stollen should grow a little and brown well.
11. Brush the hot stollen with melted butter. When it cools down, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
12. Wrap in parchment and then cling film.
13. It can be stored for several months.
