New Year's holidays in Iceland and Ireland

Sometimes you want something unusual and spontaneous. Go somewhere you've never been before, see with your own eyes what you've only seen in pictures. What would you choose: the northern lights and volcanic landscapes or green hills and atmospheric pubs? Today we are comparing two incredible countries that take every tourist's breath away. We'll tell you where to meet 2025 below.

Iceland

The island nation is located in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean. It is characterized by volcanic and geologically active territory. The climate here is subpolar maritime. The southern coast is warmer and more humid, while the northern coast is colder and drier. In winter, the average temperature ranges from -5°C to 1°C.

We recommend starting your trip with the Christmas market in Reykjavik. Here tourists will be able to see a reflection of true Icelandic traditions: woolen sweaters, ceramics, handmade products. They will also taste authentic dishes, in particular, puffed bread - laufabrauð.

By the way, in the country, on the eve of Christmas, locals often exchange books - Jólabókaflóð. That's why you can buy all kinds of literature at the markets.

What to see?

First, go to the Valley of the Geysers. The most popular of them is Haukadalur. It is located at the foot of the glacier. The crater is capable of spewing steam to a height of over 40 meters. Also, go to Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe. Every second, it spews out about 150 liters of water with a temperature of about 97°C.

If you want to keep warm, then head to the Blue Lagoon. The geothermal lake contains natural salts that have a positive effect on the human body. You can swim here at any time of the year.

Next, head to the Gulfoss Waterfall. It is located in the canyon of the Kvitau River. Its streams fall into a 32-meter deep gap.

Also visit the Reinisfjara beach near the town of Vic. It is famous for its huge basalt columns and black sand. The landscape was formed over the centuries: hot lava flowed into the ocean and froze, and magma turned into boulders.

And, of course, go to the Svínafellsjökull ice cave. It seems as if sapphires are stored here. Keep in mind that you can only come here from December to February.

Ireland

The country is located in northwestern Europe on the Atlantic Ocean. It has a temperate climate with warm summers and cool winters. The average temperature in December ranges from 6°C to 10°C.

It has long been a custom in the country to light candles on New Year's Eve. It means a silent invitation to the festive circle as a symbol of hospitality and unity. Traditional caroling groups perform in local pubs during the holidays.

We recommend visiting the Christmas market in Dublin. Here travelers can enjoy mulled wine and pudding. By the way, it is made from butter flavored with cognac. You can also buy handicrafts here.

Also go to Forty Foot Beach. The Irish have a tradition of New Year's Eve swimming in icy waters.

What to see?

First, head to the Cliffs of Moher. They are located near the villages of Liscanor and Doolin in County Clare and are 214 meters above sea level. From here you can admire the Atlantic Ocean. It is also an amazing location for photo shoots.

Next, go to the town of Hout. The popular Bailey Lighthouse is located here. The first building was erected here around 1667. By the way, the station is officially automatic. However, it still has staff.

Also visit the Temple Bar neighborhood in the capital. There are various places where live folk music is played. The most popular is The Temple Bar. It is famous for its large collection of whiskey and beer. All buildings here are decorated with bright lanterns and themed decorations.

Fairy-tale and picturesque Iceland or atmospheric and incendiary Ireland - you choose.
