How to save violets if the leaves dry up: tips
Violets are quite unpretentious plants. However, in winter, you may notice that the leaves begin to dry and curl, and the flowers look frail and painful. The first step is to carefully examine the violet to determine the causes of this condition.
OBOZ.UA tells you how to save violets if the leaves are drying. There are several effective tips.
Why do the leaves dry out
The causes of drying leaves can be:
- disease (you need to additionally examine the shoots and stems);
- improper watering regime – violets can suffer from both abundant watering and insufficient watering;
- Lack of nutrients – violets periodically need soil fertilization;
- excessive dry air – violets like moderate moisture. If the violet is on the sunny side of the window sill, be sure to cover the window with foil so that the plant does not get burned;
- hard, untreated tap water. Poorly purified water contains heavy salts and chlorine that negatively affect the flower.
How to save a violet
The first step is to establish a watering regime. In winter, you should water the violet a little less often, and in summer – more often. You need to look at the condition of the soil – it should not be too wet. You can purchase pots with automatic watering.
You can water it only with purified water. Hard water should be filtered beforehand.
Take care to humidify the air. You can simply put a wet towel on the radiator – for a while the air will be slightly moistened.
Although violets are unpretentious plants, you should regularly fertilize the soil. The plant needs micro and macro elements. It is worth adding fertilizers and transplanting the violet into new soil, especially if the flower grows and does not have enough space in the container.
