Mold is a common problem in wet rooms like bathrooms. It can penetrate tile joints, walls, start in the washing machine, and even appear in the silicone sealant you use to seal cracks and joints.

Cleaning the sealant itself can be problematic, especially compared to open surfaces. However, OBOZ.UA found out about one way to help restore this waterproof material to its original state and hygienic cleanliness.

Of course, you can buy caustic chemicals to help you fight mold. But this is not the only effective way. Experts also recommend relying on the power of acetic acid. It is contained in ordinary white vinegar, is inexpensive, and is quite safe and environmentally friendly. At the same time, it kills mold spores well, and at the same time acts on bacteria and viruses and inhibits their growth in the long run.

To prepare the mold spray, mix distilled white vinegar and water in equal proportions. Prepare the mixture in a spray bottle and then apply it to the silicone sealant.

Soak the problem area with the vinegar spray thoroughly and leave it on for at least an hour. If the liquid begins to dry, add a little more. For more soiled areas, it may take longer.

Once the vinegar spray has worked, wipe the silicone surface with a disposable towel. The mold should come off easily. Rinse the cleaned area with warm water to remove any vinegar residue, and then dry it completely with a towel or cloth.

Keep the water away from the problem area, as moisture is the main factor that leads to mold growth. Also, keep a bottle of vinegar handy in the bathroom and spray it on mold-prone surfaces every few days. This preventive treatment will help protect your bathroom.

If mold is stubbornly reappearing, consider leaving the vinegar solution on overnight. And don't forget to ventilate the room well to remove water not only from surfaces but also from the air.
