How to clean clogged sewer with salt: two effective ways

A clogged sewer can be easily cleaned even with the help of improvised means. Salt is a powerful ingredient for pipe cleaning that has a number of advantages: availability, efficiency, and most importantly, environmental friendliness.

Salt is a natural alternative to harsh chemicals. Experts told us about two simple ways to help clean the sewage system.

Method 1

The combination of salt and baking soda has a powerful effect. The two ingredients have abrasive and disinfectant properties and are extremely effective. Together, they form a powerful tool for removing pipe residue.

• Heat a glass of water.
• Mix 50 g of salt and 50 g of baking soda in the hot water.
• Pour the still-hot mixture into a sink or washbasin (if the pipes are PVC, wait until they cool).
• Use a vacuum to create a back and forth motion.
• Turn on the warm water to clean the pipes.

Method 2

The combination of alkaline salt and acidic vinegar creates a chemical reaction that can remove the most stubborn obstacles.

• Dissolve 120 g of salt in 250 ml of white vinegar.
• Pour the mixture into the pipes, close the hole, and wait 20-30 minutes for the components to act.
• Rinse with hot water mixed with a small amount of dishwashing detergent.
• Leave on for a few minutes and then rinse again with warm water.

Salt itself is also very effective when used properly, especially for preventing clogs. Fill the sink with very hot water. Add 50 g of salt for every liter of water. Remove the stopper and let the salt water flow through the pipes.

You can also use a drain snake to unblock the blockage. The plumbing cable consists of a handle and a steel spring that should be pushed as deep as possible into the pipe. Next, you should make a few turns and carefully pull the snake outward - hair and other dirt that clogs the sewer will stick to it.
