When traveling by air, some shoes can be potentially life-threatening. According to flight attendant Mary Schiavo, flip-flops can even be fatal as they impede evacuation in an emergency.

According to The Sun, the expert advised to avoid wearing flip-flops for a flight at any cost. Any other comfortable shoes can increase the chances of surviving a plane crash.

"I see people boarding with flip flops and I think if you have to get up and run and you fall down or you can't run, you're not only going to hurt yourself, you're going to hurt dozens of other people on this plane," Schiavo said.

She emphasized that wearing comfortable shoes and knowing where emergency exits are located will increase the chances of survival in the event of an emergency.

"Please wear sensible shoes and leave them on until after take-off," the flight attendant urged.

She also told a real story that happened in Houston, Texas, USA. A plane carrying baseball fans crashed into a fence during takeoff and caught fire.

Despite the scale of the incident, all passengers and crew (21 people) survived, among other things, because they were wearing comfortable shoes.

"If you escape an aircraft, the floor could be very hot or cold, it might be covered in oil or on fire, or in a cornfield - you won't want to be barefoot," said the flight attendant.

After the incident, two people were hospitalized: one with a minor back injury and the other with respiratory issues.
