Rio de Janeiro and Truskavets

The demand for traveling in Ukraine has increased significantly during the full-scale war. For some, it's a way to unburden themselves, while others have a greater interest in exploring their homeland. Traveling around Ukrainian cities, many travelers could conclude that domestic tourism is no worse than international tourism. Especially since some localities are very similar to their foreign "counterparts."

For example, the architectural style of Dnipro, with its contrast of old buildings and modern skyscrapers, may remind you of New York, and if you have long dreamed of visiting Rio de Janeiro, then visit Truskavets, where you will find an exact copy of the statue of Jesus Christ, as in the Brazilian city. We will tell you more about these and other "twins" among Ukrainian and foreign cities in the OBOZ.UA article.

Dnipro

The spatial environment of Dnipro will amaze you with its diversity. Some buildings in their original or altered state have been preserved since the end of the 18th century, when Dnipro was Yekaterinoslav. Meanwhile, the central parks were founded by the Zaporizhzhia Cossack Lazar Globa. At the same time, the city boasts modern skyscrapers, unique avant-garde sculptures and installations. Dnipro journalists from the Nashe Misto website compared Dnipro to its foreign friends. The video went viral on TikTok. From certain angles, Dnipro looks like Miami, London, and Manchester, but it has the most in common with New York.

Netizens even joked in the comments, calling the city the "United States of Dnipro region".

Truskavets

Another video captivated TikTok users, garnering over 1.4 million views. The caption "Rio de Truskavets" speaks for itself. The fact is that in 2020, the largest sculpture of Jesus in Ukraine, a copy of Christ the Savior in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was unveiled in a resort town in the Lviv region. It was installed on Hoshivska Hill and can be seen from almost anywhere in the city.

The total height of the sculpture is 12 meters. It immediately catches the eye upon arrival at the local train station, as it is located almost next to it. Meanwhile, netizens joke (or say quite seriously) that it is not necessary to travel halfway around the world to see the famous statue in Rio when you can visit Truskavets.

Uzhhorod

It's no secret that Uzhhorod is famous for its magnificent sakura trees that bloom in the first days of May. During this period, the city's landscapes are filled with flowers of all pink shades. True aesthetes and connoisseurs of natural wonders should visit Uzhhorod in spring at least once in their lives. On Dovzhenko and Rakoczy streets, white and purple magnolias bloom alongside sakura trees, creating an even more breathtaking picture in tandem.

You've already guessed that Uzhhorod can be compared to almost any Japanese city, because sakura is one of the main business cards of Japan. In the collage, for example, we placed the Shinjuku-geen National Park in the capital Tokyo.

Vylkove

Charming Venice is a city and municipality in Italy, in the Veneto region, where thousands of tourists come every year. The Italian pearl is located on more than 100 small islands in the Adriatic Sea lagoon. It is called the city on the water. Do you know who else is called that? A small town 300 kilometers from Odesa. Yes, yes, Vylkove is the Ukrainian Venice. Unfortunately, our city on the water is not so popular among tourists, but it definitely deserves to be known more.

Here, in a small and little-known town in the Odesa region, instead of streets and sidewalks, there are also canals, several meters wide, that locals use to sail on Ukrainian "gondolas."

Lviv

There's no point in saying how much Lviv resembles European tourist cities. Everyone who has ever been here has seen it with their own eyes. Lviv is particularly reminiscent of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.

With its ancient charm, signature cobblestone streets, coffee and chocolate aroma, Lviv is full of legends, which is why it attracts travelers so much.

Bakota

Bakota is a village in the Khmelnytsky region that you won't find on a map. Crossing the border of this corner, you seem to be transported to Ireland, namely the Connemara region with its green hills and rocky terrain. But Bakota is not just a picturesque landscape. It is a place with a tragic fate. The village disappeared from the face of the earth because of human activity - it was flooded during the construction of the Dniester PSPP, along with its architectural monuments. Today, Bakota is the name given to the bank of the Dniester, where the ruins of a once majestic monastery have been preserved. You can find this place 50 km east of Kamianets-Podilskyi.

Visiting Bacota, you feel like a time traveler. The white cells of the monastery, towering over the Dniester, seem to speak of a lost greatness. And the healing springs remind us that life used to be bustling here.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, every year the world's largest travel platform TripAdvisor compiles a rating of the best destinations around the world that tourists should visit. The list is formed based on travelers' feedback from the last tourist season. The company looks at the ratings of tourists for accommodation, restaurants and entertainment in certain parts of the world for 12 months, and then gives recommendations for traveling in the new year.
