How to clean a showerhead

Limescale is formed due to exposure to hard tap water. If not regularly maintained, the white streaks and spots on the plumbing can turn into stubborn deposits that even aggressive chemicals cannot remove.

Water saturated with chlorine, lime, and salt can harm surfaces and gradually deteriorate them. The Express publication explains how to efficiently clean limescale from a showerhead.

Causes of limescale:

  1. Irregular cleaning - if you neglect cleaning the white buildup in its early stages, the risk of thick layers significantly increases.
  2. Hard tap water is the primary cause of persistent limescale.
  3. Damaged plumbing surfaces - limescale often accumulates in cracks. Improper use of plumbing can lead to the formation of cracks, allowing limescale to spread.

How to clean limescale:

Limescale on a showerhead is a common household problem. Over time, mineral deposits and organic substances accumulate and can clog the nozzles, disrupting the even flow of water.

In this case, the aggressive components of household chemicals can further harm the faucet's surface.

Baking soda and vinegar are effective ingredients for descaling showerheads, but there is another natural alternative that works faster. Cleaning experts recommend using citric acid, which can quickly dissolve limescale.

Lemon is a great addition to the list of natural cleaning agents because its low pH enables it to swiftly remove limescale, rust, and other contaminants.

Step 1: Unscrew the showerhead and place it in a bowl of water.

Step 2: Add one teaspoon of citric acid and stir thoroughly until completely dissolved. Wait for 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the level of dirt.

Step 3: Rinse the showerhead with clean water. Turn it on and run plenty of water to flush away any remaining acid.

By the way, a gel made from regular laundry soap can also effectively tackle limescale. Grate a sufficient amount of soap finely and pour a small amount of hot water over it for the entire day or overnight. You can find more information about the proportions and usage method in the article.
