According to Nealthline, the technique requires slowly inhaling through the nose for four seconds, then holding the breath for seven seconds and exhaling the air smoothly for eight seconds. This method will help you relax much faster and fall asleep almost instantly.

The author of REM sleep is Andrew Weil, a doctor at Harvard University, USA. He believes that getting a healthy sleep by following his recommendations is as easy as breathing.

"This method is quite simple, does not require a lot of time, and can be used in any environment," the author described the methodology. He also warned that if you have asthma or lung disease, you should first consult a doctor.

How to fall asleep quickly

  • Slightly open your lips and exhale through your mouth, making a characteristic whistling sound.
  • Close your lips and inhale quietly through your nose.
  • Count to 4 in your head.
  • Hold your breath for 7 seconds.
  • Exhale (with a whistling sound) for 8 seconds.
  • Complete the cycle in 4 full breaths.
  • Try to do it "automatically".

Weil emphasizes that it is important to place the tip of the tongue behind the upper front teeth and keep it there throughout the workout.

The expert warned that it may not be possible to achieve a quick effect after the first time and that the practice will have to be continued. Weil believes that at the beginning, the 4-7-8 breathing exercises should be practiced twice a day for two months.

"If you achieve results, it can help you not only get a healthy sleep but also get rid of stress in everyday life," Weil said.
