You should never store carrots with these vegetables: main rules
In order to keep carrots as long as possible during the cold season, it is important to observe not only the temperature conditions but also the proximity to other vegetables. If you don't know some of the nuances, your vegetables can become a breeding ground for various pathogens and fungus.
The FoodOboz editorial team has gathered information for you and will tell you what vegetables you can and cannot store carrots with.
Most experts say that you should not store carrots together with other vegetables as they all require different storage conditions. For example, the vegetable can be stored together with beets for a short period of time and only 10% of root vegetables should be placed in the same place, which is not the case with cabbage as these vegetables have different respiration and, accordingly, require different temperatures.
If you ignore the rules, then carrots that have dried out or become too cold are often affected by fungal diseases: white rot, gray rot, alternaria, and rhizoctonia. Their biggest disadvantage is that the pathogens do not appear immediately, but rather in the second or even third month of storage.
In addition, unripe, overripe, wilted, or overcooled root crops are most susceptible to the disease. Pathogens spread very easily even with minimal changes in storage conditions, one of which is frequent opening of the chamber door.
If you notice even minor damage by fungal diseases, you need to reduce the humidity and temperature in the room (to 0 degrees Celsius) and increase the level of carbon dioxide by one percent.
In addition, various preventive methods, such as treating the containers with fungicides, will help to solve this issue. The treatment is carried out a month before loading the products. If the wood from which the containers are made is clean and light, the treatment stage can be skipped. You can also additionally treat the refrigerator and its containers with sulfur.
