The best rice for cabbage rolls is named: the dish will turn out very juicy
Stuffed cabbage rolls are usually combined with some kind of cereal. This makes it very juicy and holds its shape well. But if you put rice in the meat, it is best to choose round rice because it does not crumble.
The idea of cooking perfect juicy cabbage rolls with round rice was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Svitlana with the nickname bonitavkusnoo. Add starch to the gravy to make it thick enough not to fall apart.
Ingredients:
- cabbage
- 500 g of minced meat
- 1 cup of boiled round rice
- 3 onions
- 2 carrots
- 1 tbsp of tomato paste
- parsley
Ingredients for the gravy:
- 100 g sour cream
- 100 g of cold water
- 2 tsp. starch
- 1 tsp. mustard
- 1 tsp of sugar
- salt, pepper
Method of preparation:
1. Steam cabbage and cut it into triangles.
2. If it is sour, soak it in cold water for several hours. Then squeeze it out and cut it.
3. Fry the onion in a frying pan, add grated carrots and simmer until soft.
4. Add parsley, tomato paste and stir.
5. Mix the roast with rice and minced meat. Add salt and pepper and stir.
6. Roll the filling in the cabbage.
7. Put in a saucepan and cover with a plate for weight (then the cabbage rolls will not fall apart when boiling).
8. Bring the water to a boil and mix with salt, pepper and tomato paste to taste. You can also add sour cream.
9. Pour over the cabbage rolls and send them to simmer until the cabbage is tender (about 40-60 minutes).
10. Pour water two to three fingers above the cabbage rolls.
11. When the cabbage is ready, dilute the sour cream, water, mustard, starch, sugar and salt separately. Stir to combine.
12. You can add it immediately to the pan and swirl vigorously to mix the liquid. You can also mix the gravy with the water from the cabbage rolls, which can be carefully drained for this purpose. Stir and pour over the cabbage rolls. Bring to a boil, cook for 10 minutes and serve. The starch will dissipate, the gravy will become thicker, and the cabbage rolls will be very tender.
