Instead of gravy: how to prepare tender goulash for buckwheat, mashed potatoes and pasta
Goulash is a delicious dish made from meat - beef, pork, or veal - in a thick gravy with spices. It is quite simple and affordable to prepare. It is also a versatile dish as goulash can be eaten with porridge, pasta, and even mashed potatoes.
Food blogger Yuliia shared a recipe for a versatile pork goulash on her Instagram page.
Ingredients:
- pork (or beef/veal) - 650 g
- onions - 200 g
- carrots - 150 g
- bell peppers - 200 g
- ketchup - 160 g
- soy sauce - 30 g
- water - 500 g
- salt, black and red pepper, paprika, garlic, herbs
- flour - 1.5 tbsp + water
Method of preparation:
1. Cut the meat and fry until light golden brown.
2. Chop the onion, carrot and pepper. Add the chopped vegetables to the meat. Fry together for a few minutes.
3. Next, add ketchup and fry for another 1-2 minutes.
4. Put the ingredients in a saucepan (or leave in a frying pan), add water, spices, garlic and soy sauce. Bring the goulash to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour until the meat is tender.
5. If you want the goulash to be thicker, add flour. Dissolve it in water and pour it into a saucepan. Bring to a boil and then remove from heat.
