Kenneth Mitchell, a 49-year-old Canadian actor known for his roles in Star Trek and Marvel movies, has died after five years of fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He is survived by his wife and two children.

It was reported by the Daily Mail. The actor's illness first became known in 2018, and since 2019, Mitchell has been forced to use a wheelchair.

The Canadian played the Klingon aliens in the Star Trek franchise. He has also been seen in such films as Captain Marvel, Miracle, Jericho, The Astronaut Wives Club, The Recruit, and Ghost Whisperer.

"Ken faced a number of horrific challenges related to ALS. And in true Ken style, he managed to fight back with grace and dedication to living a full and joyful life," the actor's family wrote in an obituary posted on Instagram.

The star first spoke about his disease in 2020. "The moment they told me it was ALS, I felt like I was in my own movie," he admitted in an interview with People. "It felt like I was watching a scene where someone was told they had a terminal illness. It was a complete shock."
