IgorKlymenko is the Minister of Internal Affairs and the former head of the National Police of Ukraine.

Brief biography of Igor Klymenko

Igor Klymenko was born in Kiev on October 25, 1972.

In 1994 he graduated from Kharkov Military University (the university was abolished in 2003). After graduation, Klimenko served three years in the missile forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As a member of Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent Igor Klymenko took part in the UN peacekeeping mission in Yugoslavia.

Igor Klymenko received further professional education first by correspondence at Odessa State University and later at Dnipropetrovsk National University of Internal Affairs.

Ihor Klymenko began his career in the law enforcement system of Ukraine in 1998 as a psychologist in the Kharkiv Department of Internal Affairs.

In 2014, after the end of the Revolution of Dignity and the outbreak of war in the Donbas, he was directly involved in the combat operations in the framework of the anti-terrorist operation. He was awarded the "Defender of the Fatherland" medal.

In 2019, after the previous head of the National Police Sergei Knyazev resigned because of the scandal related to his ex-wife, Igor Klimenko was appointed the new head of the National Police of Ukraine.

Minister of Internal Affairs

On January 18, 2023, after the tragic death of Interior Ministry leadership in a helicopter accident in Brovary, the Cabinet appointed Klymenko as Deputy Minister of Interior, entrusting him with the duties of Minister of Interior.

On 7 February, Klymenko was officially appointed head of the Interior Ministry.

The head of the National Police is married. Igor Klimenko's wife is Oksana. The couple has a son, Stanislav.
