Biden made a number of remarks at the NATO summit

On the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., U.S. President Joe Biden made several serious remarks that seem to have failed to help him restore his reputation after an unsuccessful debate with his election rival Donald Trump. Speaking to the public, he referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and to US Vice President Kamala Harris as Trump.

Reuters reported on the American leader's latest mishaps, which became the most discussed news of the NATO summit in the United States. It is noted that the head of the White House gave the floor to the President of Ukraine.

"And now I want to turn the floor over to the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he does determination, ladies and gentlemen, President Putin," Biden said, referring to Zelenskyy.

Correcting himself two seconds later, Biden added: "President Putin, you will beat President Putin, President Zelenskyy. I am very focused on defeating Putin."

According to the newspaper, "the audience at the summit gasped when Biden mistakenly called Zelensky Putin." The Ukrainian leader was not confused and responded to Biden's remark by saying: "I am better (than Putin – ed.)."

"You're a hell of a lot better," Biden confirmed.

This was not the only mishap of the evening – Biden shocked the audience for the second time when he confused the names of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump without even paying attention. This happened when the American leader assured the audience that he would continue to fight for his re-election, even though many Democratic colleagues called on him to end his campaign.

The 81-year-old Biden, who is already the oldest person to ever hold the presidency, assured that age is an advantage, as it adds wisdom.

"Listen, I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president if she wasn't qualified to be president. So start with that," Biden said when asked by Reuters about his confidence in Harris.

The journalists added that at the beginning of the press conference, the president often coughed and occasionally stumbled over his answers, and at the end, his sentences often broke off before he had finished his thoughts. At the same time, he gave detailed answers to issues such as the conflict between Israel and Gaza and the need for Western countries to produce more military weapons to confront Russia and China.

Notably, Biden has been under scrutiny in recent days and has faced doubts, particularly from members and donors of his own Democratic Party, about his chances of re-election after a weak and uncertain performance in the debate against former Republican President Donald Trump.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

– Earlier, Biden admitted that he had performed poorly in the debate with Donald Trump and called himself "not a young man." However, the politician is confident that he will still be able to win the presidential election in November this year.

– The survey showed that despite the fact that President Joe Biden did not perform convincingly in the debate with Donald Trump, it did not change the opinion of many voters about both candidates for the US presidency.

– Politico reported that on the eve of the NATO summit, diplomats and world leaders expressed skepticism about Biden's political future. Foreign officials largely support Biden's re-election, but fear that Donald Trump's return to the White House will harm NATO.
