The US Presidential Administration condemned the rocket attack on the Druze village in northern Israel (Golan Heights), calling it "horrific." The shelling killed 12 people, including children who were on a soccer field.

This was reported by Reuters. As a reminder, the Israeli authorities accused the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah of the attack.

"Our support for Israel's security is iron-clad and unwavering against all Iranian backed terrorist groups, including Lebanese Hezbollah," a White House National Security Council spokesman said in response.

Earlier, the US expressed concern that the strike on the Golan Heights could lead to a war between Israel and Hezbollah.

"What happened today could be the trigger that we've been worried about and trying to avoid for 10 months," an unnamed U.S. official was quoted as saying by Axios.

Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari identified the missile that hit the soccer field where children were playing as an Iranian-made Falaq-1. It carried a warhead containing more than 50 kilograms of explosives. It is believed that the missile was launched from an area north of the Lebanese village of Shebaa.

The IDF also said that the Hezbollah terrorist organization was behind the attack. Tel Aviv has promised to respond to its actions, although the Iranian-backed group denies any responsibility for the attack.

According to The Times of Israel, the attack took place after the Israeli army struck a Hezbollah cell at an arms depot in Kafr Kila in southern Lebanon on Saturday afternoon. Later, the Lebanese group confirmed the deaths of four of its elite fighters as a result of the IDF strike.

As reported, The New York Times, citing Israeli security officials, wrote that the country's military leadership would like to agree to a ceasefire with Hamas in the Gaza Strip if the IDF launches an operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Israelis have also concluded that a ceasefire would be the fastest way to free the hostages.
