Updated HIMARS: the German concern presented the MLRS for the massive long-range cruise missile JASSM. Photo.
At the Eurosatory 2024 arms exhibition, the German arms concern Rheinmetall showed GMARS, an updated HIMARS rocket artillery system developed in cooperation with Lockheed Martin. GMARS stands for Global Mobile Artillery Rocket System.
It will be able to launch the massive long-range cruise missile JASSM. This was reported by the Ukrainian military portal Defence Express.
The AGM-158 JASSM cruise missiles are manufactured by the American corporation Lockheed Martin. In the basic version, they have a range of 370 km.
"At the same time, the range of the JASSM-ER, which is already in production, is over 960 km, and the JASSM-XR is 1600 km. And it is worth noting that in March 2024, the German Ministry of Defense began the procurement of 75 AGM-158B/B-2 JASSM-ER air-launched cruise missiles," the article says.
In addition to the JASSM, the new MLRS will be able to fire GMLRS, GMLRS-ER and ATACMS projectiles, as well as long-range PrSM missiles. The GMARS will feature a Rheinmetall HX chassis and a doubled volley.
"In this way, GMARS demonstrates the most pragmatic solution with the integration of existing developments. It should also be noted that MBDA (a leading European developer and manufacturer of missile systems - Ed.) is also developing its own cruise missile for HIMARS - JFS-M. But obviously, the "ground-based" JASSM will appear much earlier," Defence Express adds.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Japan has unveiled a project of a 155-mm anti-aircraft artillery system that will be able to destroy drones at short distances. It is assumed that this system will be able to shoot down air targets at a distance of 5-15 km.
