Scholz addresses Beijing on the war in Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that China should use its influence on Russia to end the bloody war in Ukraine. Beijing should not supply Moscow with modern weapons and prevent the conflict from becoming protracted.

The German politician was quoted by Reuters. He made this statement at a joint briefing with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who arrived in Berlin on a working visit.

"China has a great influence on the Russian leadership. It is time to use it," Scholz said.

Recall that China itself made a similar request to the West. A representative of the official Beijing called on Ukraine's international allies not to supply weapons to the Defence Forces, but to focus on diplomatic negotiations.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that the day before, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken paid a visit to Beijing. Together with Xi, he discussed the problems of Ukraine, which is confronting Russian aggression every day.

At the same time, he assured the Chinese authorities that Washington still does not support Taiwan's independence. The United States does not seek a new Cold War, does not seek to change China's system, and its alliances are not directed against the Chinese state.
