"We're not shocked": Ukraine's Foreign Ministry reacts to the idea of US aid in the form of a loan

Kuleba commented on the idea of US assistance to Ukraine in the form of a loan

The Ukrainian side is currently unaware of the specific details of the proposal to provide military assistance from the United States in the form of a loan, which was supported by U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham. However, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the idea of providing military assistance in this way was not a surprise to the Ukrainian side.

The minister announced this during a meeting with foreign media representatives, according to Ukrinform. Kuleba noted that it is shocking for the Ukrainian side that the decision to provide assistance has not yet been made in the US Congress, and although the end of March is approaching, discussions are still ongoing.

"Ukraine is already receiving support in various forms. Some of it comes in the form of grants, and other support comes in the form of loans. So we are not shocked by the proposal from the US, but the question is what about the overall structure of the assistance that will be provided. And we have not seen any details about this proposal, except for a general mention of loans instead of grants," he said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister also emphasized that one of the most beneficial ways to ensure global security is to support Ukraine in the current situation. He noted that Ukraine hopes that the discussions in the United States will end positively and a decision will be made that will not destroy American aid.

Earlier it was reported that the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden insists that House Speaker Mike Johnson stop delaying consideration of the bill that provides for the allocation of aid to Ukraine. The White House emphasizes that the document should be put to a vote as soon as possible.

As a reminder, on March 12, the White House announced the allocation of emergency military aid to Ukraine totaling $300 million. However, the Pentagon emphasized that the transfer of this aid to Ukraine was a "unique case" and cannot be repeated without the passage of a bill in Congress.
