"We all have to be ready": NATO predicts the duration of the war in Ukraine

Russia will be able to fight for at least 3-4 more years

Russia will be able to withstand life in a war economy for at least 3-4 years. Therefore, Western partners will have to support Ukraine in the long run.

And although the consequences of the war for the Russian economy will be significant and tangible, there is no reason to hope that the war will end soon. This was stated by a senior NATO official during the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., Voice of America reports.

He predicted that Russia will "undoubtedly" be able to withstand life in a war economy for at least 3-4 more years, so Ukraine's allies are focused on what they will have to provide for Kyiv in the long term.

"Ultimately, we all have to be ready to continue supporting Ukraine even after 2025. We all understand very well, and as we have been saying for a long time, this is not a conflict that is likely to end soon. It will require years of focused efforts," the unnamed official was quoted as saying by Voice of America.

In his opinion, the Kremlin's decision to put the Russian economy on a war footing will have very tangible and significant economic consequences for Russia in the long run. But for now, Russians are accepting the way of life imposed on them by the authorities.

The senior NATO official also commented on NATO's intentions to establish a command post in Wiesbaden, Germany, and what practical results Ukraine will get from it.

"Together with defense and industrial commitments, this provides a stable source of support for Ukraine. It is a coordination mechanism that will ensure that Ukraine gets what it needs when it needs it, and it provides some accountability because we all know that there is a long list of promises, and what appears on the battlefield is often different from what is announced," he said.

Earlier, Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov described how Ukraine's air defense system would be strengthened. In addition to the systems announced by the partners on the first day of the summit in Washington, there are "dozens of tactical air defense systems" that Ukraine will receive in the coming months. Work is also underway on several projects, and Ukrainians will soon be able to learn about some of the results of this work.
