Ukrainian Armed Forces launch counterattack near Pokrovsk

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have deployed reserves to the Pokrovsk sector to stop the advance of Russian occupation forces. The Ukrainian command has sent up to five brigades to this section of the front, each with up to 2,000 personnel.

The Armed Forces also began to use armored vehicles more actively to deter the attacks of the Russian invaders. This was reported by Forbes.

Putin's army in the Pokrovske direction outnumbers Ukrainian forces by about four times. Even though the Ukrainian command has allocated approximately 12 battalions for a sudden offensive in the Kursk region of Russia, the Armed Forces probably left 4-5 brigades with hundreds of vehicles and thousands of soldiers in reserve.

Now, some of these reserves have joined the battle along the last line of trenches and fortified towns just kilometers from Pokrovsk and its vital supply lines. Kremlin propagandists have already begun to complain that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have launched a counterattack and stabilized the front line.

Today, Ukrainian soldiers are conducting small counterattacks around Pokrovsk, the main result of which has been to slow down or slightly push back the Russian occupiers. The Ukrainian Center for Defense Strategies has predicted that the battle for Pokrovsk will be the culmination of the enemy's offensive in the southwestern theater of operations in 2024.

In particular, the Kara-Dag brigade's offensive in Selydove, a frontline town southeast of Pokrovsk, could be the most significant of the recent counterattacks. For several days now, the brigade's tanks have been blowing up and capturing Russian tanks and combat vehicles trying to enter Selydove on the main east-west road.

Analysts have noted that without successes in the area of Selydove, the enemy will not be able to continue its offensive. Now that fresh and well-equipped Ukrainian troops are in Selydove and attacking, the Russian capture of Pokrovsk looks less likely.

As a reminder, the Russian occupation army continued offensive operations in the Donetsk region on September 6 but did not achieve any confirmed success. In turn, Ukrainian troops regained their positions in the Pokrovske direction.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian occupation forces slowed down the fighting in the Pokrovsk area. The invaders began preparing for defensive actions there.
