"Moldova and Georgia could be next": Pistorius warns the world of devastating consequences if Ukraine is defeated

Germany has recognized that supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia is costly for Germany. However, the defeat of the Ukrainians due to the termination of this assistance will cost much more.

The statement was made by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during a discussion organized by the German newspaper Die Zeit, Ukrinform reports. He called on those who suggest the termination of support for Ukraine, explaining that "this is not our war", to consider the possible consequences.

"We have to realize that if Ukraine loses this war because we or the West as a whole stop supporting it, then tomorrow there will be no Ukraine. And yes, supporting Ukraine is expensive, but the defeat of Ukrainians will cost us much more. Not only in terms of Putin's military threat, but also because of the flow of refugees from Ukraine that it will provoke," the politician said.

He noted that by his actions, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin "tramples on the rules-based international order." If he is allowed to achieve his goals, he will decide that the West is weak and he can do what he wants.

According to the minister, if Ukraine loses the war unleashed by Russia, Moldova and Georgia, and possibly even the NATO's Baltic states, could become Moscow's next victims.

"What kind of signal does this send to other autocracies in the world that are essentially just waiting to be shown that the West is not ready to defend the international order? And that is why it is so important that we do this (support Ukraine - Ed.), and for as long as it is necessary. Or at least for as long as Ukraine can say that we can now bring Putin to the negotiating table," Pistorius emphasized.

The German defense minister added that everything should be done now to restore peace in Europe, but "there are no signs that peaceful and secure coexistence with Russia will return in the near future." So far, Putin "has not made it clear that he is ready to do this (to reach a peaceful settlement - Ed.), at least on terms that are even remotely acceptable to Ukraine."

"I believe that we should continue to provide all possible support to the Ukrainians so that they can find themselves in a situation where they can achieve this goal. And at the same time, I think we should be even tougher in our sanctions against Russia. There are still too many loopholes," the German defense minister summarized.

As reported, Germany, together with its partners, is preparing another military aid package for Ukraine worth 1.4 billion euros.
