Despite the fact that the international community's reaction to the shelling of the Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital came almost immediately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that Ukraine's partners would respond in kind at the NATO summit in Washington. This refers to decisions to strengthen Ukraine's air defense and to strengthen Ukrainian defenders in general.

The president said this on the evening of July 9, summarizing the day's results. According to Zelenskyy, simply condemning Russian war criminals is not enough – real action is needed.

"I thank the leaders, countries – all those who yesterday and today condemned Russian terror. We appreciate your support, friends! We are on the phone – we are working with our partners now so that no one is silent. We want everyone to condemn. And we want everyone to act. We want to make the right decisions that will restore security. Including the decisions here in Washington, here at the NATO summit," the president said.

He clarified that the Ukrainian delegation in the United States is now "fighting" with him for more air defense systems for Ukraine and for aircraft for Ukrainian defenders.

"I am sure it will be. We are fighting for more aircraft. F-16. We are fighting to get them. We are fighting for additional security guarantees for Ukraine, including weapons, finances, and political support. We are fighting for the necessary decisive actions of America and Europe – something that will strengthen our soldiers," Zelenskyy said.

Separately, the president emphasized that he is currently in constant communication with the government and promised that the authorities would restore Okhmatdyt.

"There is a first decision – 100 million hryvnias to support Okhmatdyt. There will be another 300 million. There will be other decisions for Kyiv, for the cities of Dnipro and Donetsk regions – we will definitely support everyone. We will help all the children, all the families, all the victims," he promised.

On July 8, Russia attacked the Okhmatdyt hospital in Kyiv. The shelling destroyed the toxicology building and damaged the central building.

Russian terrorists hit the building where children were receiving dialysis. Also, the intensive care unit was destroyed as a result of the shelling.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, in addition to the UAH 100 million allocated by the government from the state budget reserve fund for the hospital itself, each affected family will receive assistance from UNICEF for UAH 10,800 per family member.

The clinic will be rebuilt completely, and work will begin immediately, although the reconstruction project has not yet been approved, the Cabinet of Ministers says.
