When will Ukraine receive the second batch of ammunition under the Czech initiative: probable timing

Production of ammunition for Ukraine

Ukraine will receive the second batch of ammunition under the Czech initiative in July 2024. Although earlier it was said to be the end of June.

This was reported by Euractiv with reference to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala. In total, Ukraine is to receive about half a million rounds of ammunition by the end of the year.

"The first batch of ammunition arrived in Ukraine on our initiative some time ago. We are doing what is necessary," Fiala said.

He emphasized that the Czech government does not disclose the origin of the ammunition.

"According to representatives of the Czech government, further deliveries are scheduled for July, and by the end of the year Ukraine should receive about half a million rounds of ammunition," the statement said.

As a reminder, in February 2024, the Czech Republic submitted a proposal to purchase artillery ammunition for Ukraine from non-EU countries to the European Council. Prague acted as an intermediary and brought together different countries with military suppliers from around the world.

The plan called for the delivery of the first batches of ammunition in May, but the implementation ran into unforeseen difficulties. At the end of May, Czech Defense Minister Jana Černohová said that 18 countries had signed memorandums of understanding with the Czech Republic to finance the purchase of ammunition. These include Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Norway, as well as non-European allies such as Canada.

Earlier it was reported that the European Union plans to increase the production of artillery shells. This will allow it to catch up with Russia's production capacity by 2025.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the aggressor country Russia produces artillery shells about three times faster than Ukraine's Western allies, and these munitions are about four times cheaper. According to the analysis, in 2024 Russia plans to produce or refurbish 4.5 million rounds of ammunition. At the same time, the United States and European countries plan to produce only 1.3 million shells.
