The source of this position is the United States: Bezsmertny explains why Ukraine has not yet received permission to use Western weapons deep into Russian territory

Most European countries that have provided Ukraine with weapons do not prohibit the use of these weapons to strike inside Russia. However, this issue has not yet been resolved solely because of the position of the United States.

All Western weapons have components provided by the United States, so Washington has the last word on strikes against Russia. This was stated by Roman Bezsmertny, an expert on international politics, in a commentary to OBOZ.UA.

According to him, some European countries do not prohibit the use of weapons provided by them to strike Russian territory. However, the source of this position is the United States.

"If, for example, we accept a certain type of weapon, then in order to reach an agreement, it is necessary that all those involved in the collection of this weapon give their consent on NATO procedural issues. If Storm Shadow is France and the United Kingdom. If it is SCALP, it is Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, but we must keep in mind that all these weapons have components provided by the United States," said Bezsmertny.

He also added that if the US position is to restrict or authorize certain weapons, then most Western countries will take exactly the same position. Therefore, the issue is not resolved in Washington today. At the same time, if you look at the agreements on the supply of Western arms, there is no ban anywhere.

"The ban is verbal in nature. Moreover, as we remember the history, in some cases, in some sectors, it was allowed, in particular, in the Kharkiv sector, an agreement was reached that the Ukrainian armed forces could strike at the enemy's territory," Bezsmertny explained.

As a reminder, Finnish President Alexander Stub called for the lifting of all restrictions on Ukraine's use of Western weapons against Russia. These restrictions are absurd, as Russia is waging an illegal war of aggression, violating all international norms.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the EU foreign ministers discussed the possible lifting of restrictions on Ukraine' s use of weapons deep into Russian territory at a meeting in Brussels. However, they failed to agree on this. As a result, each country will decide for itself whether it will allow Ukraine to use its weapons inside Russia.
