Spain to send first six Leopard tanks to Ukraine right after Easter: media find out details
Spain will hand over the first Leopard 2A4 tanks to the Ukrainian army right after Easter, which is celebrated this year on April 16. We are talking about six units of this military equipment.
El Pais newspaper reported on it on Wednesday, March 29, citing its own sources. According to the journalists' interlocutors, these tanks are currently being trained in the Spanish city of Cordoba.
There, at the Cerro Muriano military training ground, the equipment is being fired before being sent to the front in Ukraine. As noted, six Leopard 2A4 tanks have already been repaired at the Santa Barbara Sistemas plant in Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville).
After the training ground, the equipment will be sent to Poland, and then to Ukraine.
On March 23, the Spanish Ministry of Defense reported that six Leopards would be sent to the Ukrainian Defense Forces "by the end of next week". The combat vehicles are to undergo final firing tests in the field.
The head of the Spanish Defense Ministry, Margarita Robles, visited the plant where the vehicles were being repaired. She said that four more Leopard tanks destined for Ukraine would soon arrive there for inspection and testing.
Recall, Portugal has handed over three Leopard 2A6 tanks to the Ukrainian army and they are already in Ukraine. The country assured that it will continue to support our country in the fight against a full-scale Russian invasion.
British Challenger 2 tanks have also arrived in Ukraine. Ukrainian tankers have completed their training in the UK and returned home with the combat vehicles. In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces received American Stryker and Cougar armored vehicles and German Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, Ukraine has received Leopard 2 battle tanks, which Norway promised our state as military assistance to fight the Russian invasion. It's about eight units of this military equipment.
